There are so many things I feel I was just so unprepared for during wedding planning. Such a beautiful and joyous day can cause so much stress! A million little details to take care of, people to herd, and jobs to be done. Luckily, my mom has taken care of so much for me but here are the things I wish I had known before hand:
1. Everyone will ask for an invite. Even if they barely know you, even if you met once. Be prepared with responses!
2. You will forget to invite people and that's okay, you have a lot going on!
3. Wedding dress shopping, is a pain. The dresses are beautiful but if you're on a budget or indecisive it takes a bit more time!
4. Rentals are extremely expensive. Avoid adding "wedding" to anything to get things for less.
5. Hair stylists are not as reasonably priced as you'd think!
6. The larger the bridal party, the more work it is to find attire. If you have a large party, don't try to be a wishywashy bride that lets everyone choose what they want to wear. It'll be much easier on you to just put everyone in the same thing.
7. There are SO MANY little details: Ribbon holding flatware together, trashcans, cake knifes, pitchers for drinks, signs to direct people, balloons to make the signs noticeable, music for the reception, music for the ceremony, music for when people are walking in.
8. Don't hire a DJ unless you're a party person. They're very expensive and most the time they do just as good a job as a spotify playlist and someone making announcements does.
9. As the day gets closer, everything becomes more stressful and planning seems like a chore.
10. You can't please everyone! Do what you want, not what you think your guests will like.
11. Caterers are usually half the price or the same price as your venue. Think about figuring out how to do it yourself.
12. Literally EVERYTHING will give you sticker shock.
13. Registries are nice but it's better to ask for cash, you just spent a ton on a wedding! Build your savings back up.
14. Go on a honeymoon right after if you can, the month before is so stressful.
15. Be prepared to cry a lot, before the big day.
